#7 USE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT AND USE IT RIGHT

Working with inferior or incorrect equipment will only hinder your progress and creativity. Plus, it’ll drive you crazy when things go wrong!

Knowing something as simple as which pipettes to use and how to correctly use them will set you off on the right foot.

Scales are another thing. Weighing your ingredients instead of using drops and ml is crucial for your blends to remain consistent when making new batches, but you must find the right scales with the correct decimal points and weight capacity.

You can use jewellery scales with at least 2 decimal points (0.01g) and a weight capacity of 200g minimum, but 500 and higher is better. Don’t forget to calibrate your scales before you use them the first time. The weights can be bought separately or as a package with the scales.

If you're serious about your brand, then you should splurge on professional perfumery scales. They cost upwards of €400, and they should have at least 3 decimal points to make it worth the extra cash!

Avoid Chinese-made scales, Japanese and German brands are more accurate and reliable.
